Mission Statement

The Sevenoaks Society is an association of local people who seek to influence positively decisions on the development of Sevenoaks, its facilities and transport systems so that the decisions are made:

  • for the long term benefit of the community
  • following due consideration of local concerns
  • in harmony with the best of Sevenoaks' buildings
  • of a high standard both in design and sustainability.
The responsibility for ensuring the above rests with the local authorities, but they need the challenge and support of an informed and alert public opinion. This the Society seeks to create and represent.

We therefore:

  • encourage people to look appreciatively and critically at their surroundings with particular emphasis on what others have done well elsewhere
  • study plans and proposals for development and put forward our comments and suggestions to the local authorities
  • walk the network of traditional footpaths around the town to ensure they are kept open
  • consider how the town might improve its transport systems for the benefit of the community
  • promote education on architecture and the built environment
  • encourage and protect the biodiversity of the area in particular the trees
  • publicise the history of the town
